Summary:
This exciting community and high school education program will provide an understanding of the historic research being conducted to save the once prolific American Chestnut. Genetically engineered, blight resistant American chestnut plantlets are being acclimated from sterile culture conditions to newly installed, state of the art, high-humidity and high-light growth chambers. Eventually the American Chestnut Restoration Lab at CNYBAC will be the main production facility for blight resistant American chestnut trees, with a goal of producing 10,000 American chestnut trees in five years.

Research at SUNY produces more than 100 new technologies every year. The Research Foundation (RF) works with business and industry, government agencies and other partners to convert SUNY’s research capacity into economic growth. The RF offers services that fuel innovation, move ideas and inventions to the marketplace and complements SUNY’s efforts to create entrepreneurship and revitalize New York’s economy. Technology Development Support, Joint Ventures and Strategic Partnerships are programs that Matt will discuss. Matt will also give an update of SUNY’s Patents and Inventions Policy defining SUNY’s intellectual property, commercialization objectives and strategic goals.

7th International Building Physics Conference @ Marriott Syracuse Downtown

The International Building Physics Conference (IBPC) is the official international conference series of the International Association of Building Physics (IABP). IBPC will be held in the United States for the first time, on September 23 – 26, 2018, in Syracuse, New York, hosted by Syracuse University and its Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems (SyracuseCoE).

The theme of IBPC2018 is Healthy, Intelligent, and Resilient Buildings and Urban Environments. It will provide a forum for scientific, technological and design exchanges through multiple platforms:

• Presentations of original research and development work and findings

• Demonstrations and exhibitions of innovative green building technologies

• Discussions of future challenges and opportunities

IBPC2018 will kick-off on Sunday, September 23, 2018 with a welcome reception at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown. The technical program will include keynote presentations in plenery sessions, parallel sessions, and poster sessions.

Keynote speakers and parallel sessions will be featured on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Evening events include a reception and student poster competition at SyracuseCoE headquarters, an iconic LEED Plati-num research testbed, on Monday, September 24, and the conference dinner and entertainment in the Grand Ballroom at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown on Tuesday, September 25. Closing Ceremonies will be held at noon on Wednesday, September 26, followed by a buffet lunch. There will also be a series of post conference events including the International Annex-68 project meeting, campus tours, and other excursions.
