Mohawk Valley Community College helps new drone company take flight in New York.
Pro Drones USA is soon to relocate to a tax-free area on MVCC’s campus in Rome, NY as an expansion to Canadian company, AVYON, and part of the START-UP NY program.

AVYON holds the exclusive rights to manufacture, distribute and develop custom solutions for unmanned air vehicles (microdrones) augmented with next-generation data post-processing techniques. Under the company’s new authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration to conduct test flights in the U.S., Pro Drones USA will now create five new jobs and invest $1 million in Upstate New York’s new venture economy.
In addition to Pro Drones USA, Governor Cuomo announced 14 more companies have joined Start-Up NY, an innovative program that establishes tax-free areas associated with colleges and universities across New York. This collaboration provides the companies access to industry experts and advanced research laboratories associated with the schools.
These new businesses in total will create 220 new jobs and invest approximately $4.3 million over the next five years in the Western New York, Southern Tier, Central New York, Capital District, Mid-Hudson and Long Island regions in industries such as high technology, biotechnology and medical devices.
