Martin Babinec launched the non profit Upstate Venture Connect as an outgrowth of his vision and commitment to accelerate transformational change across Upstate by building a startup ecosystem that enables first time entrepreneurs to more easily connect with the resources who can help them build the next generation of high growth companies.

In 1988 Babinec founded Silicon Valley based TriNet Group, Inc. serving as CEO for the company’s first 20 years and Chairman until 2010. TriNet’s cloud based HR services help more than 10,000 small to mid sized companies throughout the U.S. and the company has grown to annual sales of more than $1.5 billion – executing a successful IPO on the New York Stock Exchange in March 2014.


In addition to his serving as a TriNet Board member and UVC Chairman, Babinec is Co-founder/Chairman of StartFast Venture Accelerator which invests in and helps grow a cohort of 6-10 startup companies each summer in Syracuse.


Recently, Babinec co-founded IntroNet, a software startup building a platform that helps individuals and organizations build stronger relationship networks by enabling and tracking introductions and referrals.

As Founder and Principal at UpVentures he makes direct investments in startup companies and serves as limited partner and advisor to several venture capital and seed funds.


Babinec is a native and resident of Little Falls NY and a graduate of Shippensburg University, Pennsylvania. He is a past recipient of the SVBJ Silicon Valley Entrepreneur of the Year award.
