On July 23rd, Gorbel Medical held a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly constructed Gaitway Center at their corporate headquarters in Victor, New York. The new center will be used as a conference and education space. As a simulated physical therapy facility, the Gaitway Center is equipped with a SafeGait 360 Dynamic Body-Weight Support System and other rehabilitation equipment necessary to educate therapists on the use of the SafeGait system and to conduct research.

Gaitway Center 2“We are excited that the new local Gorbel Gaitway Center will continue to work closely with practitioners to produce and enhance products that will allow us to further facilitate the functional recovery of our patients,” said Kathy Owens, PT, Chief of Physical Therapy at the University of Rochester Medical Center, in information provided by Gorbel Medical to UVC. “The use of the recently installed SafeGait Body-Weight Support System has already positively impacted the functional recovery of many patients participating in therapy on the Rehabilitation Unit of UR Medicine’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.”

Building on this success, the space in Gorbel’s Technology Center building will also be used for research and product development while working with therapists. “The Gaitway Center will serve as a hub to bring together therapists and researchers to investigate new rehabilitation tools that can be developed into future Gorbel Medical products,” said Brian Reh, President and CEO of Gorbel Inc. “Therapists from across the country will use the Gaitway Center to collaborate on studies designed to measure the impact of Gorbel Medical’s products, including the SafeGait System, on clinical outcomes, care quality and delivery.”

Excitement about Gorbel’s Gaitway Center opening was far reaching, with governmental dignitaries invited to the ceremony. Representative for US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Niambé Tomlinson; New York State Senator Rich Funke; Representative for Assemblyman Brian Kolb, Emily Palumbos; and Victor Town Supervisor and Chairman of Ontario County Board of Supervisors, Jack Marren, were honored guests who made an appearance at the ribbon-cutting event. Special guests from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Nazareth College, Monroe Community Hospital, and the University of Rochester Medical Center were mostly physical rehabilitation therapists and researchers with connections to previous and ongoing work at Gorbel Medical.
