Upstate Expat Returns to Build Region’s Venture Ecosystem

Kathryn Cartini signs up as UVC’s Director of Marketing & Communications

Upstate, New York (20, January 2016) – Kathryn Cartini has assumed the position of Director of Marketing and Communications at Upstate Venture Connect (UVC). She will be responsible for building campaigns and media relations to increase visibility of Upstate NY’s emerging tech ecosystem, strengthening startup community partnerships and promoting entrepreneur events across Upstate New York.

According to UVC co-founder and CEO, Nasir Ali: “Kathryn is exactly the type of talented and experienced individual we can attract back to Upstate. Her exposure to the cutting edge of media, communications and high growth startups in the Boston area will be tremendous assets in building Upstate’s venture ecosystem.”

Cartini has been assisting UVC in these areas since May 2015, and developed a deep knowledge of Upstate’s high-growth venture ecosystem. As CEO of Peacock Media, an inbound marketing firm partnered with HubSpot, her experience in developing content creation campaigns has assisted UVC in doubling its network size to nearly 10,000 entrepreneurs and startup supporters. Cartini also assisted in organizing the first ever Upstate Venture Ecosystem Awards, which drew over 250 attendees last fall at the Turning Stone Resort.

An Upstate New York native and graduate of the SI Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, Cartini’s expertise is supplemented by many years of experience in television news for the NBC and ABC affiliates in Syracuse, NY and Charlotte, NC. Since leaving the newsroom she began her entrepreneurial journey leading marketing campaigns for startups and nonprofits in Charlotte, Boston and Upstate New York.

“After living and working in several startup communities across the nation, I couldn’t be more proud to return home to Upstate NY. Assisting UVC connect entrepreneurs with the talent, mentorship and funding needed to create amazing high-growth, high-tech companies for our region has brought my journey as an entrepreneur full circle,” said Cartini.
