Create a new business in 54 hours. That’s the challenge that groups of developers, startup enthusiasts, marketing experts, graphic artists and students will take on at the fourth Startup Weekend in Upstate New York this Friday through Sunday, Feb. 26-28.
In Focus Brands and The Sage Colleges are hosting the event at the Armory at Sage, which Sage is converting into an innovation center. Address: 140 New Scotland Avenue in Albany.
Run by Techstars, Startup Weekend has grown into an international presence, reaching 135 countries and involving more 210,000 entrepreneurs since the first Startup Weekend was held in Boulder, Colorado, in 2007.
“The entire Sage community is excited to be hosting its first Startup Weekend,” said Kim Fredericks, dean of the Sage’s School of Management and a member of the team organizing the event. “This event will bring together students and the community to create synergies to solve business problems.”
As in the three previous Startup Weekend events organized by In Focus Brands, this weekend’s event will bring together people with diverse skill sets in such areas as manufacturing, IT, medicine, finance, media and software, said Robert Manasier, lead organizer and facilitator and entrepreneur-in-residence at Sage.
